Facebook Marketing

At this point, you have already heard of social media and Facebook. Facebook is a social platform for connecting people with those around them – friends, family, colleagues, or others with like and similar interests. In 2004, Facebook started as a closed community for college students within a university, requiring users to sign up with a valid university email address. It then expanded to other universities and, has since expanded beyond that to high schools, corporations, regional networks, and any user across the world. Facebook allows users to connect and share information in a variety of ways.

Facebook has over 720 million active users as of 2014 and the number is still growing steadily. It is the second most trafficked website in the world behind Google. However, it is the most trafficked social media site in the world. Although started within a University, more than two thirds of Facebook users are outside of college . The fastest growing demographic is those 35 years and older. Businesses looking to
target customers would be smart to focus on this established social network.

Facebook can be used for the following business goals:

  1. Connect and engage with current and potential customers
  2. Get found by people who are searching for your products or services
  3. Provide information about your product and services
  4. Create a community around your business
  5. Promote other content such as webinars, blog articles, or other resources
